The spring of 2002 was a tough one
for me. After a long winter programming computers in Des Moines Iowa I was
burned out and tired, and not enthused about lettering. I stepped up and
updated all my equipment, but couldn't get kick started until Scott Garst,
a
friend I raced dirt cars with years back, called. I have been lettering
his kids car for years since dad quit racing and the kid began. He invited
me out to the Eastern Grand's in Topeka, Kansas as a vendor and after a ho-hum
attitude I realized that the love for the sport was still there, and the kids
and the families reminded me of why I loved racing.
They call themselves TyGar Racing,
fort the Kid named Tyler Garst. One of the cars I did is pictured to the
left here. I tiger striped it in orange and lettered it, this was a fun
car to see the younger Garst's face when him and mom arrived to see the finished
product.
As a result, I spent the summer of
2002 as a vendor at the 3 biggest races of the year for the quarter
midgets, something I hope I can repeat in the future.
The Eastern Grand's in Topeka,
Kansas, the Western Grand's in Pueblo, Colorado and the Dirt Grand's in Hagerstown, Maryland.
This scattered my work about the
country, from California to New Jersey, Florida to Michigan, and who can be sure where else.
I made a lot of friends and the
families that support this sport have some of the best kids anywhere,
it rejuvenated my faith in people and made me proud of my efforts. I think
you can see why....
